posted on Monday, April 20, 2015

Howard County and across Iowa will be celebrating Money Smart Week April 18-25, 2015.  Money Smart Week is a collaboration of local agencies around the state with the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.  This year marks the 9th year being celebrated around Iowa.

Money Smart Week events around the state cover a wide range of topics from identity theft, credit and home buying to car buying, investing and money management.  This helps bring education to all ages and all walks of life in Iowa.  Check out more information at

Locally Howard County held a local essay contest for grades 7-11.  The essay question was:  What is the biggest obstacle to saving your money?  What technological and/or banking solutions might help you and your friends begin to save?

We are happy to announce that Hope Dohlman of Cresco was the first prize winner of $200 in the local contest.   The second place winner of $100 was Dustin Thome of Osage.  This local contest was sponsored by C US Bank of Cresco and the ISU Howard County Extension and Outreach office whose staff spent time meeting with Federal Reserve workers to make these events happen locally.  All applicants in the local essay contest were submitted for state competition.
